You Say Supaidā-man I say Spider-man

Sure, you’re pretty familiar with Spiderman’s many extra-comic-ular appearances, such as cartoons, a live-action series and the recent trilogy of blockbuster movies. What you probably didn’t know was that in 1978 Japan had its own Spider-Man who one-upped Peter Parker with something the teenager couldn’t even aspire to—a giant, transforming robot.

Supaidā-man was the result of a deal struck between Toei and Marvel giving the Japanese film/TV company free-reign to use Marvels characters for four years. Apart from his costume, Supaidā-man was a tokusatsu hero through and through.
